Starting a TPT Store

    If you are a teacher or educator, chances are good that you have poured your sweat and tears into making amazing resources and lessons for your classroom. Why not take the time to share these resources with other teachers and make some extra spending cash doing so? 

    Starting a TPT store is fairly simple, and can be done in a short period of time. Making money from the store can be a little harder. We will discuss marketing in another post. For now, follow these simple steps for getting started.



 What you need to get started

    You only need a few basic things to open your TPT store.

  1. Shop name
    1. You can create a name for your store, or you can use your own name. I have seen people have success with both of these options.
  2. Picture of yourself or logo of business
    1. You can technically open your store with no picture or logo, but I recommend having one to make your store look more professional, personable, and inviting. 
  3. Free product
    1. In order to open your TPT store, you have to offer your first product for free. Here's an example of one of the free products I offer.
  4. PayPal acccount
    1. TPT charges a one time fee of $29 for a basic seller account and an annual fee of $59.95 for a premium seller account.


Where to create products

    Here are a few of the places where you can create your TPT products. I personally use a combination of PowerPoint and Canva for my products, and use Canva for my marketing.
  1. Canva
  2. Microsoft PowerPoint
  3. Microsoft Word
  4. Adobe Photoshop

Step-by-Step

1. Go to teacherspayteachers.com and choose "Join" from the top menu bar.



2. Choose from the basic seller account or the premium seller account. 




3. Complete the Account Information and Seller Information sections with your information. 




4. You are then directed to PayPal to complete the payment based on the account level you chose.

5. Once your account is created, log in and click the store menu button at the top of the page. Then choose "Add New Product". 




    Once you add your first free product, you are ready to start adding products for sale! Be sure you are creating high quality products for a reasonable price. There are a lot of TPT sellers, so offering customers an amazing product at a reasonable price can help create a following for your store.
